Interim Meeting of the Project “Cleaning Ergonomics – to Prevent Occupational Diseases and Accidents” in Amsterdam

Cleaning ergonomically seems very simple at first glance, but how can ergonomics be taught?

We are currently developing learning materials for cleaning managers to teach ergonomics, as part of the international Erasmus+ project “Cleaning Ergonomics – to Prevent Occupational Diseases and Accidents”. To facilitate the creation of these materials, we met with project partners in Amsterdam from May 14-16, 2024. The objective of the meeting was to share experiences regarding the implementation of the first version of the ergonomics learning materials in various countries and to incorporate necessary revisions into the materials. We gained valuable insights from each other, recognizing that the principles of both cleaning and ergonomics differ across countries.

In addition to the discussions and substantive work with project partners, we visited the Interclean Amsterdam cleaning fair as part of a three-day Learning, Teaching, Training (LTT) event. There, we familiarized ourselves with innovative solutions in the field of cleaning ergonomics. We gathered new ideas on how to further develop the soon-to-be-completed learning materials, ensuring their maximum applicability in real-world scenarios.

Furthermore, we visited the i-Team showroom, where various ergonomic cleaning solutions were presented, alongside principles on how cleaning can be made more efficient, simpler, and more cost-effective. On the final day, we had the opportunity to observe the actual cleaning process at a metro station and gain insight into a cleaning company’s ergonomic principles.

The event proved to be highly educational for the partners, providing numerous new ideas that we can integrate into the learning materials and apply in daily cleaning practices or when teaching cleaning. The learning materials for cleaning ergonomics are set to be completed this spring, and we will soon be able to share them publicly.
