Study Visit to the Netherlands may 15-17, 2024

A study visit to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, led by Puhastusekspert, took place from May 15-17, 2024. Participants included consortium members from Tartu University Hospital, Valga Hospital, East Tallinn Central Hospital, Arkaadia OÜ, SOL Baltics OÜ, Järvamaa Vocational Education Centre, Pesuekspert OÜ, Ideia OÜ, and Uma Puhastus OÜ. The study visit was supported by the Erasmus+ consortium’s learning mobility project no. 2023-1-EE01-KA121-VET-000133792.

During the study visit, participants received training from the following companies: I-team Global, Vileda Professional, Johannes Kiehl KG, HAKO Ground & Garden, and Unger Professional. While the products of these companies are used daily in the Estonian cleaning market, observing the concepts of all companies at a major exhibition was perceived as highly innovative.

On-site, it was observed how companies are investing in environmentally friendly products and packaging – even established products are receiving new packaging. Furthermore, a prevalent approach is that cleaning operatives do not need to adapt to cleaning tools and equipment; instead, these can be adjusted to suit the operative’s needs or the specific characteristics of the site. For instance, the Vileda cleaning trolley can be customized for each site by adding drawers, modules, and accessory holders. As an innovation, a tablet has been integrated into the cleaning trolley, providing all essential cleaning information – including task lists, room layouts, and feedback. The aim of these advancements is to enable needs-based cleaning and to consciously foster cleanliness.

Amsterdam Interclean Professional Cleaning Exhibition

The winners of the Innovation Award are also honored at the Amsterdam Interclean professional cleaning exhibition. The overall winner for 2024 was Diversey-A Solenis’s product, LESSEAU NO hand soap with dispenser. This is the first automatic soap dispenser designed for bar soap. The soap is 100% microplastic-free and vegan, as it eliminates the need for packaging within the dispenser, unlike traditional liquid soaps. The grinder inside the automatic dispenser dispenses soap flakes onto the hands, and one bar of soap can serve 300 hand washes. Bar soap generates no waste, and this soap leaves hands pleasantly soft and fragrant. The automatic dispenser is compact, stylish, energy-efficient, and features a rechargeable battery. A persistent issue with liquid soap is dripping, and refill packages often consume significant space, are heavy, and produce considerable waste. With this soap, these problems are minimized. LESSEAU NO hand soap also received the Sustainability and Environmental Innovation Award.

Kärcher BV’s autonomous vacuum cleaner KIRA CV 50 won the award in the Smart Technologies and Digitalization category. This is a medium-sized robotic vacuum cleaner, an excellent aid for cleaning open-plan offices, hotels, and other large open areas. The vacuum cleaner is equipped with replaceable batteries, enabling 24/7 operation.

The Labor and Ergonomics Innovation Award was won by Baudoin Wash-Systems BV with their wash drone, which can be used for cleaning facades, roofs, glass, and solar panels. With the powerful Wash Drone device and smart technology, hard-to-reach surfaces, which are often almost impossible to clean, can be effectively cleaned. The wash drone cleans under high pressure, utilizing pure water technology, and is easily controlled from the ground. The Baudoin wash drone also received the cleaning operatives’ choice award, as it simplifies their work and adds significant enjoyment to their professional lives. When presenting the award, the cleaning operatives remarked that operating the wash drone does not feel like cleaning at all, but rather like playing a computer game.
The Amsterdam Interclean cleaning exhibition featured 875 participating companies, and a total of 30,000 visitors from 143 countries attended the fair. The next Amsterdam Interclean exhibition is scheduled for April 2026. We extend our gratitude to all fellow attendees with whom it was highly engaging to explore the world of cleaning and discover innovative solutions.
