Erasmus+ project

„Advancing hygiene and cleaning training for HORECA SMEs“

The Erasmus+ project “Advancing Hygiene and Cleaning Training for HORECA SMEs” involved six European countries — Estonia, Ireland, England, Greece, Spain, and Romania.
The project took place from 2019 to 2021.

What problem did the project aim to address?

Many small cafés, restaurants, and hotels organize cleaning in the way that seems best to them. They often clean themselves instead of outsourcing the service — which means their knowledge of cleaning practices and management may be limited. There is often a lack of cleaning management competence, and it is not uncommon for cleaning responsibilities to fall on someone with very little professional knowledge of cleaning. In addition, modern cleaning tools and methods are often missing or poorly understood.
Within the project, the necessary skills for organizing cleaning work in the HORECA sector were mapped, and training materials were developed to teach these skills effectively.
The project achieved the following results:

1) Six partner countries mapped the tasks and competencies required for individuals responsible for organizing cleaning in small businesses. To ensure the relevance of the proposed competencies, small enterprises were interviewed and their feedback was incorporated.

2) Based on the identified competencies, online learning materials and an educational game were developed to help small business managers successfully organize cleaning operations in their establishments.
