3 Cleaning Agents You Need at Home

Most dirt in a home environment can be removed without cleaning agents. When used skillfully, microfiber cloths or mops moistened with water are highly effective aids in removing various types of dirt. However, it is still not possible to manage entirely without cleaning agents at home.

Our recommendations for which cleaning agents are needed at home and for what purposes:

  1. Dishwashing Detergent – Even with a dishwasher, something occasionally needs to be washed by hand. Hot water and a good dish brush do their job, but a little detergent is still necessary. Dishwashing detergent can also be successfully used, for example, for washing windows by adding a drop of detergent to the wash water. If kitchen countertops are very dirty, dishwashing detergent can also be used to clean them. However, one must be careful about how much detergent is used, as dishwashing detergent foams profusely and is difficult to remove from surfaces.
  2. Estonia has hard water, which causes limescale deposits on various surfaces. It is advisable to prevent the formation of deposits by immediately drying surfaces. Nevertheless, there is occasionally a need to remove stubborn deposits. For this, an acidic agent is required, typically with a pH of approximately 0-2. It is crucial to use acid correctly; otherwise, for example, faucets may be permanently damaged. Correct usage involves thoroughly wetting the surfaces to be cleaned with clean water beforehand, and only then applying the agent. After cleaning (i.e., scrubbing with a brush), the surfaces must be rinsed with plenty of water and definitely dried!
  3. An agent is also needed for cleaning the WCbowl and sink. It is advisable to use rather mild acidic agents, with a pH close to neutral, for example, pH 5. There is no daily need for the use of strongly acidic agents.

When selecting cleaning agents, it is important to know that professional cleaning products are entirely suitable for home use, but not vice versa. Agents intended for home use should not be used when cleaning is performed as a professional task. Agents that do not have a negative impact on health and surfaces when used rarely may do so with frequent use. Professional agents have detailed information about their specific usage on the product and safety data sheets, which should definitely be taken into account.
